MUSIC MONDAY: MUSIC NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

It’s time for an update on the music industry. From new festival announcements, new tracks dropped, to shows booked and cancelled.

Read on.

ANGEL OLSEN
We love her sound, and she’s just announced a new album, titled My Woman, to be released in September. The album was recorded live at Vox Studios, and is one part poppy and one part reflective synth.

Get excited, because she’ll be on tour this summer.

DJ KHALED
If you haven’t seen the new Apple Music commercial with DJ Khaled and Ray Liotta, stop what you’re doing now. Khaled tweeted a few hours ago, and it’s actually pretty funny: http://bit.ly/1UaoWSj

GOVERNOR’S BALL
ICYMI, there was some stormy weather at the Gov Ball in New York City over the weekend, and performances by Kanye, Death Cab for Cutie, Chvrches, Betty Who, and Two Door Cinema Club were cancelled. Boo.

The fest was not without its successes, though. There were great performances, and a few awesome Prince tributes by Haim, Beck, and Mac Miller.

THE ROOTS
The Roots stage the annual Roots Picnic every year in Philadelphia, but this year they’ve announced the fest will also be held in NYC. This October, get pumped for sets by D’Angelo, The Roots, Leon Bridges, X Ambassadors, and John Mayer.

Tickets go on sale on June 10th.

KANYE

Kanye tried to surprise fans over the weekend with a last minute 2am performance at Webster Hall. The announcement drew huge crowds – and even closed some NYC blocks – but the venue cancelled the show at the last minute. Good try Kanye.
