We think denim is the perfect DIY-able item out there RN, and for good reason. We love personalized stuff, and we know you do too.

That’s why we’ve put together a super easy denim DIY in honor of Canada Day. We’re patriotic like that.

It’ll take you 20 minutes tops. And after Canada Day, you can revert your shorts back to normal, and slay in distressed denim for the rest of the season.

What You’ll Need:
Denim Shorts or Jeans
4 X 6 Inch Mini Flag
Pliers or tweezers
Needle and thread
Washing machine

1. Turn your denim inside out. Measure your flag and cut it to match the shape of the pocket.

2. Sew!
Make sure the flag is on the side of the pocket that shows through the front of the denim.

3. Using chalk, mark your denim where you want the distress marks to be.
(You can start with denim that already has some distress marks, like we did. Or you can start from scratch!)

We added extra to really make the flag pop out.

4. Cut along your chalk line.

5.  After you've made a cut, you'll notice that the blue threads in your denim point down, and the white threads are horizontal. Using your tweezers, loosen the white threads a bit. Then, completely rip out out some blue threads to widen the rip.

7.  Throw your denim in the washer and dryer for a more worn-in look.

8.  Wear them on Canada Day and share your DIY with us on Insta #ardenelove

Happy Canada Day!
